On the 6th of April we will organize an information evening for the people who are interested at 20:00. Due to the corona virus we are obligated to organize this evening in a different way then usual. To still inform everyone about a board at Complex, we will hold the information meeting via Skype! Let us know if you will be joining by sending an email to firstname.lastname@example.org. Next to that every board member will write their own blog in interview form. When you have interest in a certain function you can contact us for 1 on 1 contact.
In this blog Jesse, Chairman, will tell you about his experiences in his board year!
Who are you, what is your function in the board and what do you like about it?
I am Jesse, 21 years old and my function within the board is Chairman. In this function you are responsible for among others presiding the board meetings, supporting other board members where needed and representing Complex at the University. I like this function a lot because I really like to help other people develop themselves and I really like to organize fun and useful events for people.
Why did you choose for a board year and why at Complex?
I chose to do a board year because of several reasons. I was eager to develop myself, to get to know myself better and to get to know a lot of new people. I wanted to develop my organizational and social skills and thought that a board year would be the ideal way to do this. Next to that I realized that my motivation for my study was getting lower and lower. I needed a different impulse to improve my motivation for studying. I believed that a board your could give me that impulse.
I decided to do a board year at Complex because I liked the mix of activities at Complex a lot. I both like formal and informal activities and Complex suits me perfectly in that way. Next to that I also really like the atmosphere at Complex where in my opinion everyone is really open to getting to know new people.
What did you mainly learn in the past year?
In my past year I learned a lot of things. What stands out for me are the things I learned about myself. This board year let me realize what I like, what I don’t like, which persons I appreciate and love and what annoys me in people. Things that are also useful for my study and future life. Next to what I learned about myself I improved my organizational and social skills a lot. I learned that the way you communicate decisions or opinions to people matters a lot in how they experience them. I also learned a lot about how to hold and preside meetings. I learned how to organize events and I know a lot more about what is important when organizing an event.
What are your highlights of the past year?
It is really hard to determine one certain highlight of the past year because I loved a lot of things and I like all the activities we are organizing. However, the first activities that pop up on my mind are our transfer weekend, our disco theme party and our Active Members Weekend. I loved our transfer weekend because it was the first time we were together with the board for a longer time then a few hours and I got a real taste of how good the next year was going to be. It was a great weekend. The disco theme party was my best theme party ever because I really loved the disco music that evening. Disco disco baby ;). And the Active Members Weekend was a big highlight as well because I loved the activities we did and I loved spending a weekend with so many Complex members.
